There is a comfortable version of freight carbon accounting in which everyone uses modal averages and everyone looks broadly fine. It is not useful for making decisions.

What we report instead

We calculate against the actual vessel or airframe, its load factor on that leg, and the real routing — including the empty repositioning your container needed to get to you.
